Grand opening by Queen Elizabeth II on October 20, 1973 with performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No.9, Sydney Opera House is the true sense of expression for Australia and noted as international icon for the country. The sail-shaped, sectioned shells which looked like sailboats covered 1.8 hectares of land, 600 ft tall and about 388 ft wide. With roofs of remarkable 1,0560,000 self-cleaning, glazed white granite tiles from Sweden, it has 1,000 rooms including five theaters, five rehearsal studios, two main halls, four restaurants, six bars and several souvenir shops. The Opera House definitely lures the interest of tourist from around the world be it opera enthusiast or mostly just with amazement of the building.
